What is a Martyr?
A martyr is a person that has to suffer persecution because of their religion or other beliefs. They were harshly discriminated against and usually killed because they refused to renounce a belief. Define the Word 'Persecution' Persecution is discrimination; it is being harmful to another in a different category of race, sex, cultural beliefs etc. Persecution can also result in death, some were crucified like Jesus but not nailed to the cross. How were Early Christians Persecuted? Early Christian persecutions included being tortured, crucified, stoned, stabbed by a sword and some faced jeers and flogging while others were chained and put in Jail. Why were Early Christians Persecuted? In that era, Christianity had many differences with Judaism, and was seen as a threat to the Roman Empire because Christianity was more obedient towards their own bishops and more loyal to their faith than the Roman Empire. Christianity abided by their own different rules and was growing and was therefore seen as a threat that became punishable, usually by persecution. |
